Unveiling an Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Piece of Feces in a Mission to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have discovered numerous entertaining creations from small studios. Yet, one stands out for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel jumping adventure features a character that is truly a dung attempting to travel to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

How you interact is simple: just use a single jump button. Throughout one hundred fifty challenges, encounter boss fights and access a store to acquire skins for your fecal avatar.

Time your jumps with caution, since one wrong move means beginning again. Jump using air pockets to launch yourself higher, traverse fragile platforms, and interact with buttons to unlock hidden paths. Gather currency to purchase challenging stages as the action ramps up.

In terms of design, the demo features neon environments and a killer music score. The retro art featuring shifting geometric shapes could recall players of old favorites like Earthbound.

Even though tough to think of previous releases where you are a coiled turd, video games have long featured scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from protagonist excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as fertilizer. And of course, this theme appears extensively in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its silly idea, Unko Technica has already received significant awards, including taking top honors at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is accessible at present on Steam, with the full game scheduled to launch on Steam on November 19.
